The XML File in the Data-Directory is written for every user and
contains all user specific information like name, signature, etc.
The file is written at first login (and at changes later on), so the
"data" directory has to have write permission for the user Tomcat runs
with (not the Apache user).
I would try "chmod 777 data" for the data directory, and if that
succeeds you should see which user is used for the generation of the
*.xml files. Don't forget to change back the permissions accordingly...
If that doesn't help, maybe you could post the Java stacktrace to this list?
