I'm rebuilding PROJ.4 and shapelib for Mandrake as it is my development machine.
I will put the rpms and src.rpm on the ftp of fmaps.sourceforge.net. You may want
to link to them from your sourcepage (or whatever).
Thanks for offering code in OpenEV (I guess that's why we all GPL our programs)
I did a quick run into PROJ.4 and GEOTRANS, and I prefer geotrans because it
supports more projections, and it is a real 3D system, with datum shifts in 3 or
7 parameters. PROJ.4 is just a projection library...
In the Pacific where I am the OpenGIS projection/datum system is not acceptable,
as it list only a define set of datums. We have here to create a datum for nearly
each Island, and errors can go wild (>5km), if you choose wrong datum...
Moreover, the purpose of this project is to have ALL the data in a database. So I
have to take PROJ.4 or GEOTRANS and replace all the calls to local files to
database calls... My plan is to take GEOTRANS and make it a new library, may be
with optional call to a file or to a database...
For the moment I'm focusing on the FMaps interface, so people can do some
plug-ins around it, and cleaning up while concentrating on the behind the scene
stuff: data representation, datum.projection, metadata.
I'm starting to get momentum in my organisation, and I may switch some of the
work from night time job to day time job.
I succeeded to get my hand on the ISO metadata standard, and it seems good.
better than FGDC. There is also a chapter on projection/datum and it seems
better than the OpenGIS format, even so I don't have the relevant ISO document.
on datums.. So I have still some work to do...
There is one part that I'm interested, and I didn't understand in my OpenGL book,
is how to texture a TIN surface. I saw you solved this problem in OpenEV. Just
taking an image with GCP and mapping it on a TIN or other 3D surface... But I
have so many things to do before that...
I had a look at GDAL looks good too. Congratulation on some fine pieces of
Frank Warmerdam wrote things about PROJ.4 and OpenEv
