Nope. Well, probably not. I had the same hang doing "make depend" (in
the programs/xterm directory,) and RedHat has never been near this box.
It appears to be a conflict with both GLIBC 2.1.3 and ncurses 5 defining a
symbol named "ERR", and this somehow managing to confuse "make depend".
Got a clue from Thomas Dickey in one of the X newsgroups, and ended up
working around it by opening a new window, finding the "makedepend"
process, and killing it. This allowed the build to continue. Been
working fine here ever since.
