Whoops -- make that "pointer to void" and "pointer to int"
respectively.

Perhaps I should be using (* t) rather than (* void)?

It doesn't look like it to me: at least the (incorrect) definition
  (define-alien-routine opendir void (dir c-string))
works for me, and calling (opendir "/tmp/") doesn't crash or anything
nasty.

Exactly how are you getting your error message?  The fact that the bug
number is gone means that the bug has been fixed, at least in
principle: this happened in sbcl version 0.7.0.5.

Christophe already tackled the actual issue, but a note for all and sundry 
listening in on this:

  Please, do not use the Sourceforge SBCL bugtracker.

The preferred archival method for bugs is the BUGS file in the 
distribution & cvs (where #133 refers to), and the preferred reporting 
method is either this list or sbcl-devel.
