Follow the instruction suggested by Thomas.
Once you have the untar the .gz file. Do the following:
1. cd into gnuplot
2. sudo ./configure
3. wait till you get the prompt.
4. sudo ./install.sh
5.Again wait and you should see gnplot 4-2.6
