This error comes from a problem compiling the user guide (probably the 
part extracted from Bob's online doc).
I told Egon about them recently.
I think they are only warnings. It happens on my computer also (I think 
it's general).

This one is more strange.
We are using the GNU gettext tools to manage the internationalisation of 
Jmol.
The script build-i18n.xml checks if the tools are available before using 
them.
Apparently, the gettext tools are available on your computer but 
probably an old version that doesn't recognize --java2.
You could try updating the gettext tools. I think current version is 0.14.5.
Try running msgfmt --help to see what version you have.

thanks for the explanation, and sorry for the delayed response.  I  
have been trying to update gettext.  the Web site does say v0.14.5 is  
the latest, but fink recognizes my version (0.10.40-19) as up-to- 
date. <shrug>

as long as it isn't fatal, I'll address it later.

You should ask Ren=E9 Kanters, I think he installed a separate version of=
=20
gettext on his Mac OS X to get it running

A simple workaround to avoid the error messages :
- look in build-i18n.xml, you should see that there's a property for the=20
path to gettext. If you set it to a wrong location, build-i18n.xml won't=20
find the gettext tools so you won't have errors.

Otherwise, you can also try to replace the --java2 flag by only --java=20
in build-i18n.xml. If it works, it can probably be committed this way

I did indeed download gettext through GNU and did not use the one =20
that fink had installed.

I am currently running version 0.13 and that seems to work fine for me.

The only trouble I had is that I am using Eclipse and needed to =20
create a .MacOSX/environment.plist file to make sure that the path to =20=

gettext was in the PATH key since the Mac OS GUI gets its path from =20
there.

version of gettext, and now my Jmol compile from bash is error-free.

Same here. Since what I have is minimal I'll just append it to this =20
email. My initial path was set based on a test of which path Eclipse =20
knew about (messing around with the build.xml and the help of Nico).
Since I have my gettext in /usr/local/bin I added that one. It turned =20=

out I needed to add the ~ home because of the qchem executable that =20
Spartan 02 uses, so that app got messed up until I figured that one out.
