Thanks! I have Verdex and I am talking about ttyS2 off of an LCD-Console.
Sorry, I should have made that clear.
Acutally, I was able to sort out the issue. I am reading the serial port
using PHP (using the php_serial.class.php library) and it was giving me some
inconsistencies. It turned out I needed to put in a slight delay into the
loop so the port could catch up.
