SBCL works perfectly fine in Vmware and Xen. I use both on a regular
basis. The only virtual machine I've had trouble with is OpenVZ, which
has broken virtual memory management.

It'll work fine of course.

Depending on how much hardware support for virtualization you have the
performance can be close, < 10% difference on i7s.  It can be up to
30% slower if you have nothing and run VMware workstation.
