Thx for this suggestion. Would this entail modifying the gtk2hs source
and then having to depend on this patched version of it? Or is it
possible to use the current stable version of gtk2hs and only have this
extra foreign declaration in my own code?
In the first case I'm not sure if this is a solution for me. The
software has to be easy to install and should only depend on readily
available versions of libraries. Unless I can bundle the modified gtk2hs
in some way that does not conflict with any other installed versions of

have to learn about foreign declarations as I have not used them before.
