Assuming you are using Audacity 1.3.4 (which is currently the best one
for VI users):
* CTRL + A to select all
* Use down arrow if necessary to put focus on the recorded track, then
ENTER to deselect it
* Effect > Amplify which amplifies the selected first track
* Type "-3" (without quotes) and ENTER
If that did not make it quiet enough, repeat the Effect > Amplify.
