the card has only got one bt878 chip with 4 inputs? So you are using the
round_robin feature of motion, right?
To be honest: this feature is not really working very well, but more due to
technical reasons. It's not a problem with motion, but with the way, the
cameras are working together with the capture card. Cheap cameras don't have
the ability to be synchinized with a common clock source. When you switch
between inputs, the chip has to properly synch to the new video source,
before you get a clear picture.
In order to get clear pictures with such a setup, you have to skip more than 2
frames! Of course this will lowerthe resulting framerate, but it is the only
way to make it work at all.
If you really want to use more than one bttv device, I'd recommend to get a
card with 4 real chips.
