I have just added a new (rather Web-2.0, but anyway) feature to SMW: you ca=
now have arbitrary customised "service links" in the factbox. You know that=
geographic coordinates already showed some additional links to online maps =
the factbox. But those links were hardcoded and could not be changed in the=
The new mechanism allows wiki admins to add and modify link (templates) for=
display in the factbox. Users can then attach any number of such=20
admin-defined services to any attribute, thus making it display the accordi=
links. For details, see the docu .
You can do a lot with the new feature, since you can use it on any attribut=
You can have direct links from string attributes to search engines, or from=
integer attributes to IMDb. It also solves the problem of scale for online=
mapping services: different attributes now can use different zoom factors f=
their mapping links. Ontoworld already provides a direct Swoogle link with=
the Attribute:Namespace now, see e.g. . In spite of all this, wiki sysop=
still retain control over what is linked in the factbox, while users are fr=
to use or not use the services provided by the wiki (sysops).
We also hope that this feature can be used to further motivate wiki users t=
annotate their texts.
