Yes, MSYS from scratch is a unfinished project of mine. The goal is to
recreate MSYS (the dll, gcc, binutils, runtime & tools) using nothing
but the sources and a initial installation of MSYS.
On the other hand, without explaining what fails during step 1 (btw,
building gcc is step 3), I won't be able to help you out if you try out
MSYS from scratch.

If you just wish to build the msys dll on your own, you can search the
mailing lists for that. MSYS from scratch would just be overkill for that.
