All I get is < error >: you must login first.  This comes on after
entering user name and password and pressing  <login>.

With !Fresco, it cannot find the URL unless I run the SSL module!

Which means it's nothing to do with SSL. As I explained in my first mail, 
SquirrelMail is known not to work with NetSurf at present.

Yes; NetSurf has the required functionality built in, however.

Many thank to John-Mark for clearing up my confusion. Is there any
possibility that NetSurf may work with SquirrelMail in the future?
Ironically, the elderly Fresco does reasonably well (but slowly) with
SquirrelMail.

Fresco does sort-of work with Squirrelmail, but the formatting is
pretty sad. I had a feeling that Netsurf's problems with Squirrelmail
aren't purely due to cookie handling though - is the frames support
complete enough?
