I, for one, *always* use 80x* - lot of 80x* *term session 80x*, plain text.
Anything, mail or code, that stretches beyond 80c margin is pretty
annoying. Except when really necessary.
While anyone on any hw, willing to contribute or just keep an eye here,
likely have at least 80x24 text mode, hoping that your mail/code/patch in
eg colored, 220cols HTML would fit to anybody is just a bad and wild guess
at min. That esp. true for such stuff that likely run and need some
tinkering on small/low resources systems.
So yes, please stick to < 80char linelength, plain text, and the good old
rules set for email/lists whenever possible.
And/or anything required by list maintainers, of course.
