Umm.. the initrd isn't necessary, did you try commenting out
the initrd and does it boot properly then? I'm the maintainer
of the initrd, I'm fixing to do an update on it, I'd like to
fix any issues that may exist.
BTW, if you create on your root partition an /initrd directory,
the initrd will be bounted there after boot-up. In that directory
you can examine the script that runs, and get an log of file.
I'd be interested in the log file on an 'failed' boot as you
describe above, if you can sent that to me.
