I've been trying various different builds of Audacity on Linux lately
- 1.3 CVS, and 1.2.1 with both PortAudio v18 and v19. Unfortunately I
was not able to get reliable playback with 1.3.0 on this Athlon
700MHZ (actually underclocked to 500MHz) because of the VU meters, I
suspect. The JACK support looks promising though.
In 1.2.1 when built with PortAudio v19, the cursor moves about 50%
faster than the audio, meaning that playback quickly gets out of
sync, and hovers at the end of the waveform while the audio is still
playing. This happens either using /dev/dsp emulation, or the native
ALSA device. If I build 1.2.1 with PortAudio v18 Audacity works
perfectly via /dev/dsp emulation.
Thanks for all the hard work!
