Jython

I just downloaded Jython and installed it. That seemed to
go reasonably well, despite the fact that the installer
didn't recognize Windows XP.

However, as soon as I try to run Jython, I get a

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassFormatError: 
DuplicatedLocalVariableT
able attribute in class file org/python/core/PyObject

I haven't found anything on comp.lang.python.* about this.
Google did find others with the same question, but did not
produce any answers.

Is this simply because Jython is too old to work with
Windows XP, or is there something wrong with the installation?

I'd really like to try to learn this language, as I'm
considering whether I should teach it instead of Java
in the Fall. Any help would be appreciated.
