Yes, it can probably be done. What I should do is just not apply the color and
let the theme (at least for GTK2) define the color. The image itself is
transparent so as long as the theme is not the same color it should still
show... although certain colors may have poor contrast.
be white for those sites that don't implement it.
The color of the plugin has been discussed before and the general consensis
was that white was better than black as a background color.
