I detailed it in another post. Since I know how much the search function
sucks, here it is:
Or not. Damn, that's weird. I can't find it in my Mail directory either.
Well, the essence of it is that I'm getting a series of ioctl messages with
associated disk activty at regular four-second intervals any time the
sequencer is idle.
Pare it down to a sequencer loop of (main.cpp)
and I get the errors continuously. The effect of this is that any time the
sequencer is running, my hard disk makes an incessant buzzing noise.
Brrrrt... pause... Brrrt...
I tried to trace the ioctls, and I think it might have something to do with
the ALSA sequencer, but damn if I can figure out why the above loop would
cause that to happen.
Here's some output from a hacked sequencer, that has some couts in it to show
where the sequencer is. I have a cout << "AAA" before the call to
app.processEvents() and a cout << "BBB" right after, so you can see exactly
where that crap is coming from:
In this example (attached) you can see that it doesn't hit every single cycle,
but as the sequencer remains idle longer, it gets to that point.
bunch of ioctl errors
bunch of ioctl errros
I have no idea what it means, or what I can do about it, but it's driving me
fucking nuts!!!!!!! Running with --nosequencer is the only way I can
tolerate RG at the moment.
The only clue I have is that it seems like it might be an ALSA ioctl having to
do with sequencer status. I don't remember why I think that, but I had a
kernel hacker friend give me a hint what the ioctl meant, and when I followed
it, I wound up in the the ALSA code. I no longer remember which one it was,
but something with sequencer status.
So why does
make it happen, and how can I stop it? It's driving me fucking nuts!!!!
(Did I mention this is driving me fucking nuts???)
