Looks like gettext and gcc disagree about the meaning of \%. I've changed
it to just % and it seems to be working now.

You might have to run update-po. Seems to be OK here.

(tried to fix it by making the umlauts xml-compliant)

it should be

msgid "Permissions"
msgstr "Zugriffsrechten"

Icons with... Permissions -> Icons mit... Zugriffrechten

In most languages there is a different grammatical form required for
'Permissions' in this situation. But gettext doesn't seem to allow
different translations for the same msgid, depending on context. What
can I do ?

Perhaps it can be rephrased (by the translation) to change the case? Eg:

	Icons with Details: -> Permissions
