I'm having what seems to be a common issue with a Radeon card when DRI is enabled.
With current beta kernels (2.5.44-2.5.49, being Radeon 1.6.0-1.7.0) the machine
will lock to varying degrees any time that DRI is enabled in X. All functions are
fine with 2.4.x, or 2.5.x without DRI.
System is: Dual P3 866 (Tyan/Via board), 512MB, Radeon 7200 DDR/64, PS/2 KBD/Mouse
First try with 2.5.49 successfully loaded my X login, but screen wasn't synched
properly, switching kvm over and back resolved this. Login entered OK, but after
password is entered the system locks. Had to ssh and reboot. This occured several
times then second symptoms occurred: Now any time X is loaded with DRI the machine
hard locks, no video no net response. XFree86 log reads :
~~~(EE) RADEON(0): Idle timed out, resetting engine...~~~ approx 40 times (possibly
dependent on time before reboot) when the machine doesn't hard lock.
Irrelevant but supporting detail: Combo works fine under XPPro @ AGP 1,2,& 4 Never
any issues. No problems under X as long as DRI is not used. Previously buggy
under 2.4.x with earlier DRI drivers, exhibiting same exact (or nearly) symptoms
Does anyone have suggestions? I'm guessing just a buggy state in drivers, but
obviously could be related to the 2.5 kerns, though DRI has _never_ worked on them,
regardless of VM state of development.
Cheers, and thanks...
CAUTION: Repeated use of finger can cause a system to become overloaded, which can cause it to stop responding.
