Thanks, but I'm fairly (not entirely, but fairly) sure that this is not
the problem. Not only because the machine has been running just fine
for over a year, but also because the older uml patch worked fine, too.
Only the new one creates this bug *and* it creates it very, very
reliably. In fact, I can reproduce this at will. Doesn't sound like
flaky hardware to me.

Plus, it didn't crash a the kernel compile. It compiled it just fine
(several times even). This message comes when I try to *run* the uml.

	You may very well be correct - it may be a uml kernel bug of some 
sort.
	When you compiled the UML kernel did you use the default 386 CPU 
settings?

uh, the CPU settings vanish if ARCH=um is set. or are you talking about
something else?

I'm going to need a stack trace from that process.  The easiest way is for
me to get access to it.  Is that possible?

I'll try. Unfortunately, I've never left the "put a printf in" stage
when it comes to debugging. Can someone tell me the right man page to
read or the right commandline to type?

For this one, you basically don't have to do anything.  Just make it happen,
and tell me how to get to it.

well, it actually is very simple:

./linux honeypot fake_ide fakehd mem=128M eth0=tuntap,tap0 devfs=mount


This error appears after boot, at the moment the login prompt appears,
before I've typed anything.
Unfortunately, reproducing is somewhat tedious, since it involves a fs
check. However, It isn't a general failure. starting just

./linux

works fine. However,

./linux honeypot

results in the mentioned crash. at that point, it doesn't seem to take
any keyboard input on the console anymore, so I've gotta kill it.
