xine - a free video player

Aargh. It would help if I actually attached the file.

Is your DVD drive in DMA mode. If so, which DMA mode. 
It looks like your DVD player is having a problem sending data to the PC.
This might be due to some problem VIA chipsets.

I used 'hdparm -d1'. I also experimented with setting -c1 and -X66 too.
Frankly, I find the man pages for hdparm to be rather lacking in
background so it is not clear what the optional setting should be.

There is a cd-rw on /dev/hdc (set up using ide-scsi). Can this make
a difference? I just made sure that dma was turned on there too. No
difference.

The mobo is a MSI K7T Turbo (KT133A). I bought the machine last August
and updated the BIOS. If it is due to the chipset is there anything
that can be done?
