I think this is a known bug - or, arguably, it is an incorrect
assumption on xchat's part that only breaks under Enlightenment. I
forget the precise details at the moment but it has been discussed in
the e-devel archives (the incorrect assumption, not xchat). Something
to do with the background image not necessarily being on the root
window, I think.
Any savvy developers lurking here might care to shed more light? =)
If you are feeling particularly industrious you can look for the
discussion in the archives and then petition the xchat author(s) to fix
their program. =) Or just not use the transparent background ... or
run epic4 or bitchx in a transparent Eterm.
