Linux Infrared Remote Control

My friend got lirc_sir working on toshiba. It was
somewhat older model without usb, however. Unloading
USB modules won't help, the USB hardware might be
generating IRQs even without the driver loaded.

So, try this:

1) The driver goes to another IRQ by default - load
it with parameters: irq=11 and iobase=SOMETHING,
look at your manual or bios setup for the value of
SOMETHING.

2) if this will fail, change the IRQ for IrDA in
BIOS setup.

3) if it won't work, place your machine on the net
and reply me privately. I've got an big axe for those
purposes.. :)

Well, I was able to get the lirc_sir module to load,
but, unfortunately, no dice with lirc.  The IR port is
on irq 11 and IO base at 0xffc0.  The module won't
load if I have USB loaded since they share the same
interrupt.  If I unload USB, lirc_sir loads, but does
not seem to work, at least not mode2.  The problem I
think is that on Toshiba laptops with the toshiba PCI
bridge, all devices on the pci bus get the same IRQ. 
I guess I'll try and seem if I can disable USB in the
bios, unfortunately, I don't think I can.  It seems I
may be out of luck.  Any suggestions?

Somewhat strange numbers - especially the IO base.
This looks like the FIR (fast infrared mode) IRQ and IO
base; the driver talks SIR. We all hope, that your
IR hardware has both FIR and SIR interfaces.

Try to look at the IR port settings, if it
really have only these IRQ and port addresses. If you'll
find another addresses, try them. And try the "standard"
addresses for COM1-COM4, too (unloading the serial
module first). You'll find them somewhere in the lirc
package.

Just in case this IS the correct sir-mode irq and iobase:
Your suggestion about one IRQ for all devices on PCI
might be true, but I'd give it one more chance: try
to set IRQ for the IR device manually, using 'setpci'
command. Mount your disks read-only before (if you can) -
changing something with setpci often have a strange side
effects :)

Well as far as the documentation says, apparently the
oboe chip supports both SIR and FIR, in what manner
this is accomplished I don't know.  I don't think it
is  controlled by a standard UART.

Well, I tried all the standard COM port settings and
had no luck.  when i load lirc_sir with com's 1 and
3's settings (irq 4, 0x03f8 or 0x03e8) or the fir
device's resources (irq 11, 0xffc0), the module loads,
but doesn't work.  with com's 2 and 4 (irq 3 0x02f8 or
0x02e8) the machine locks hard.

When I load the serial module, it only shows ttyS00. 
No other serial ports. Also when I run the irda
utility "findchip" I get no output.  I guess I might
try some DOS irda utilities next.

My OS. is RedHad 7.0. Dongle is in com1and is
MA-600.when I insmod lirc_sir.o and load the AP.
irrecord, I could not get the right signal.but using
ESI dongle can.
   Why?

Most serial port dongles need a special programming sequence to change the  
baudrate. It's not enough to change the baudrate in the UART as an  
autodetection is not possible. So your dongle simply is not supported. We  
only support built-in SIR devices and partially the Tekram IRmate 210  
dongle.

I followed all the instructions to the letter, but when I try to install
the lirc_sir kernel module I get the following result:

Hello,
I try to get lirc working with my Gericom Masterpiece Notebook.
If I insert serial.o dmesg shows:
ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a16550A

If I insert lirc_sir.o with these arguments I get this results:
lirc_sir: i/o port 0x02f8, IRQ 3.
enable_irq(3) ubalanced from d8da2a13
lirc_sir: Installed.

(Almost) The same with no arguments.
llircd runs without error (just "licd(sir) ready")
The problem is, that I can't receive nor send any signals. I tried different remotes with mode2, irrecord and irw.
Does somebody have an idea?

Is there any way to use this module with an ACT-IR200L without compiling
LIRC?

I am using Fedora 5.
