libMesh: A C++ Finite Element Library

Hi,

   I noticed that there are some changes of ./configure from svn revision
3392 to 3408 related to vtk.
However, this change makes ./configure does not recognize vtk with shared
library built. Instead,
it only recognize static library build. The problem is there are a lot of
linking errors when I tried to
link my code with libmesh+vtk static if using ./configure(rev 3408).

   There was no such problem with ./configure (rev 3392) and vtk shared
library before. BTW,
I am using vtk-5.4.2 under Linux 64bits.

Hi, Looks like the problem is that you built VTK in a non-system directory which is not in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH, so the configure test fails. You could try one of the following: .) Add the VTK install directory to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable .) configure with --with-vtk-lib="/path/to/vtk/lib -Wl,-rpath,/path/to/vtk/lib" to try and add it dynamically on the link line. -- John
