Sorry Pablo, my mistake. Panotools, nona and hugin do the proper
thing. I was looking at a map that was cropped on the sides (without
really saying it :) A full (theoretical) 360x180 would be square.
I did, however, fixed a bug in which the image starts to get repeated
if the vertical space is more than the one needed by the
projection. It now just leaves the space black.
