Sorry Pablo, my mistake. Panotools, nona and hugin do the proper
thing. I was looking at a map that was cropped on the sides (without
really saying it :) A full (theoretical) 360x180 would be square.

I did, however, fixed a bug in which the image starts to get repeated
if the vertical space is more than the one needed by the
projection. It now just leaves the space black.

Does this mean we can no longer create fisheye images greater than 360 
deg?  I liked the effect this created.

You can, they will just appear black in the ouside of their area :)

I have been thinking about the best way to deal with this. I would,
sometimes, like to include the data, sometimes not. How about creating
2 different projections: "repeat" and "non-repeat". 

This really only applies to azimuthals. The rectangular projections
can be repeated ad-nauseum in other software.

Other than that the only way is to add a parameter... but I rather
not.
