You may wish to look at the existing project JXTA Search which sounds
very similar - see http://search.jxta.org/. Has the advantage of being
cross-platform (Solaris, Mac and Windows) and not just Linux.
Also, I discovered the following news article on JXTA Search
(http://news.com.com/2100-1001-253664.html?legacy=3Dcnet) but the
commercial venture mentioned at the end of the article seems to have
disappeared. I suspect that p2p file sharing networks have given p2p
technologies a bad name which may slow the take up of this approach.
