Is this on Gecom import? During gedcom import it's now yet known if note is
only attached to media or not. You could do a feature request to change
this, don't know if it would be easy though
In the interface, when adding a new source, it is known you add it under
Media, so suggesting as default 'Media Note' is easy.

So Media Note and others likewise are skipped. If you type yourself however
'Media Note' it will be saved with same type as other Media Notes.

It is a note type. You can filter on it, see the filter sidebar on the note

Not in Gramps GUI. You can change it by editing the xml file though, so via
a search and replace. General is stored as the number '1', while Meida
Note Type is stored as number '17'

The type of media is the mime type, not a gramps type.
You search on a string, eg 'image' or png
