I was in vacation for a few days, so I try to answer all your question today =)

Great that you have chosen qx.Mobile for your mobile app development!

You are right, the selectBox does not fire the changeValue event right now. 
As a quick work around you could listen to the event: "changeModel", at the model of the SelectBox.

I will implement the "changeValue" event triggering, soon.

Hope you had a good vacation.  I tried your suggestion but what I need is an
event which fires when the user changes the selection in a selectBox.  I
added a listener for changeModel on the selectBox and nothing fired when I
selected a different value.

Yes you are right.

I added the changeSelection to qx.ui.mobile.event yesterday with commit:
https://github.com/qooxdoo/qooxdoo/commit/30773f04611c0362527fe2fab2c31d661b823641

So if you replace the old version of "qx.ui.mobile.form.SelectBox" with the newest version of the commit, this might solve your problem.
