The example plugin never seems to have made it into the documentation?  Is
there a suitable simple one I could crib from somewhere to get me started?

[mantisbt-help] Simple and advanced view

Hi,
I upgraded from 1.2.0rc1 to 1.2.0final.
My problem is that for report, update and view I don't need the advanced
view. I Always used the simple view. 
Looks that in version 1.2.0 final the simple view is not available anymore
(it was in rc1, I never installed rc2). 
Also in the administration_guide.html
(http://docs.mantisbt.org/master/en/administration_guide.html) at the
chapter "User preferences I read that the user should be able to choose the
advance view/update/report but in my mantis, in the user preferences, there
aren't these options.
I tried to set the variables $g_show_report, $g_show_view and $g_show_update
to SIMPLE_ONLY but it has no effect.
Is there a way to go back to the simple report/update/view?

"How to reproduce" That I don't want to see because they have no reason to
exists in my environment.

But I was wrong.

I see  advanced view only in the "Report Issue" screen. The update and the
view are still ok with the "SIMPLE_ONLY" screen.

I would like only to eliminate those fields (and the select profile now that
I turned the profiles off).

Any suggestion?

"$g_enable_profiles = OFF"  doesn't work on version 1.2.0
It has no effect.

So, you have to correct it with the diff file in bug 11565 that I told you.

I experienced the same, I applied this correction, and disabling profiles worked 
!

Please read config_defaults_inc.php or the manual for information on how
to use the $g_bug_report_page_fields and $g_bug_view_page_fields
options. You can show/hide whatever fields you like on the report and
view pages using these options.
