[Gumstix-users] directfb fails in R260

The directfb examples fail (lockup) in R260. Reverting to 254 works OK.

Terry,

Hmmm . . . that would seem to implicate the tsc2003 changes.  Does it
still lock up if you disable loading the tsc2003 module by commenting
it out in /etc/modules?

Steve - Forgive the noise - this is my fault.

Cautionary tale...
While it is great to be able to boot directly from a vfat partition on
uSD using initramfs with the ability to have any sized rootfs on an ext3
partition (image sizes of 1.5G+ on a 16M XM4), one MUST remember that
the running kernel is the one on the _initramfs vfat partition_. Any
kernel changes - while included in the rootfs - are NOT going to be in
the running kernel... switch_root doesn't change to new kernel. A new
initramfs must be built incorporating these changes.

I was diligently running bitbake -crebuild virtual/kernel,
task-base-gumstix, gumstix-directfb-image etc, rsyncing the rootfs to
the uSD and then blindly booting from an initramfs kernel circa Nov
2007. Doh!

If you are writing up anything on booting from CF /MMC/ uSD make a note
of this. 

BTW has anyone played with kexec on arm?

For an additional datapoint. I built the gumstix-x11-32mg-image R260 and
that seemed to work fine with a much cleaner touchscreen behavior. Not sure
how the changes may relate differently to the FB stuff, but I saw not
adverse behavior with X11.

Marc,

Thanks for confirmation that the touchscreen driver is working better for you.

I've been doing a bunch of testing with it and various x11 packages
(including the rosetta handwriting stuff).  It is much better than
before, though still has a bit more jitter than I care for.  Not
really sure if the x11 touchscreen stuff has config settings for
greater smoothing.

it is a tsc2003 issue. rmmod tsc2003 and everything works, when loaded, apps
that use 
the touchscreen freeze and never return to shell
