I've been thinking about this for a while, I think many extensions would
benefit from it.
The way that I was thinking about doing it is to allow for a 'scope'
setting on the parameters for an extension. Having three scopes: global
(the way it is now), document (settings are held in the document) and
element (where they are per use of the extension). I haven't laid any
of the groundwork for implementing this (well, except for parameters
existing) but I think it solves the problem.
