I don't see where 'panel' is used. 'pane' is the correct technical
term for the 'part' of the window. I think that a panel could be
composed of different panes.
The word 'pane' is usually used as in a 'window pane', which is a
piece of glass in a window. Some windows have the cross-bars made out
of wood that seperate the window into four or six parts. These parts
are also the panes.
But, I'm not sure if 'pane' is a good word to use because it might be
