Well, here is a repost of a (slightly better) storyline than what is on
offer at the moment.........if you want to fix it up, great :-) it just
gives an outline on the story so far, which is what I think you wanted
"The Rlaan were, approximately twenty thousand years ago, at the same
of developement as we were.... albeit in the next arm of the galaxy.
grew ouwards, due to their incredible drive to outdo themselves and
colonised their star system. It just so happened that they were
fortunate to have a smal wormhole located just within their stars Oort
cloud. Making this discovery, they were able to advance through a
of wormholes out into the galaxy. They soon found that they were not
and encountered many different races as their empire expanded.
though, not one race was even close to being as advanced as the Rlaan,
as such, no great resistance was offered.
Their expansion soon slowed, as less and less new wormholes were being
discovered --they needed a new method of transportation. Learning the
physics of wormholes, and how to create and control them was harder than
expected. It took almost one thousand years to gain this knowledge...
even then the technology was imperfect. The created wormholes, or
"jumpgates" lacked the power natural wormholes did --the distance gained
from a certain amount of energy was over a factor of ten smaller.
this thousand years, the dynamics of Rlaan culture changed
considerably --all races of the empire began to think as one, and all
xenophobic reactions dissapeared. Something else happened also, the
stagnated, as the will to better themselves was dampened by the halting
the empires expansion --there was no longer any "horizon" to travel
The disadvantages of this gate technology was immense, considering that
gate must also be opened at "both ends." Conventional means was needed
place the end of the gate..thus expansion resumed, but was far slower.
Rlaan Empire (now made up of many races) after reclaiming their thirst
growth, began to advance technologically at an even greater rate. This
possible the greatest discovery so far. This was the ability to move a
ship, as if through a wormhole from one place in space, to another,
instantaneously, and "without any external inputs." That is, a ship
large enough power source can power it's own "wormhole like" movement,
without having to use any preexisting wormholes!
Giant cruisers were constructed to take advantage of this, and to seed
galaxy with jump gates. The expansion continued at a phenominal rate.
Rlaan also came across many new species... on such being the Aera. The
interested the Rlaan, as they had developed into sentience on a tiny
almost barren of life. The Aera were taken into the wings of the Rlaan,
were established as a key race of the empire.
This is where the trustingness of the Rlaan betrayed them. Where their
slightly xenophobic reactions of the past may have saved them, they
did not see the Aera for what they really were --evil. As the empire
beginning to reach the last quarter of the galaxy, the Aera struck.
the technology adapted from the empire, they declared war on the Rlaan.
empire was unprepared for any such move, the only ships tht existed were
peacful purposes. There was no need for anything else. The Aera
moved through the galaxy, obliterating most of the ships of the Empire,
the spacebound factories that created them. Restricted to the surface
planets, the empire crumbled, as those planets that could not support
themselves were destroyed, and those still posessing the means to
themselves (with agriculture) were left with little or no technological
inputs. One tale often heard in the isolated Rlaan colonies, is of the
ships that, after the obliteration of the empire and the withdrawal of
Aera, swept through the galaxy, removing all but a few traces of the
technology left unattended, and provided limited supplies to a few of
more desperate planets. These tales are often put down to folklore.
The Aera withdrew from the desecrated empire into a small sector of the
galaxy, not far from the system of Sol, from which another sentient life
form was just emerging from the continent of Africa. Human beings,
having the benefit to encounter the Rlaan Empire, began to create their
empire, using the old jump gate system created by the Rlaan, unawares of
danger of the galaxy. With only a few systems colonised, the Aera were
met --with the loss of eight colony ships. The colonising effort was
halted, and all rescources were put into technological
advancement --although the Aera had lost most of the knowledge gained
the Rlaan, they were still, in the technological sense, superior to man.
It is just as well though, that a few of Earths corporations still saw
profits waiting to be harvested out in the galaxy, and exploration on a
smaller scale continued. As the attacks on Earth began, the most
discovery of human history was made... the discovery of a dead Rlaan
With the newfound technological wealth, the Confederation has
staved off the destruction of Earth, and of mankind. The Aera are now
becoming impatient with their lack of progress though, the turning point
this decades long was is approaching. The ultimate victor, and survivor
this conflict is to be decided now. Can you guide mankind to
Well, you asked for it! ;-) They are just my ideas..but I think they
pretty good ;-)), and it is what I had in mind for the Rlaan when I
them. In the game I figure trading with a Rlaan system will begin after
is discoved, about 1/4 through the (single player) game. When the
Confederation is about to lose all, the past seems to be repeating
the Rlaan, and the "Federation of United Peoples" is formed (the Rlaan
an alliance with us). And thus the tide is turned and the Aera are
from the the galaxy forever...................or whatever, as I said,
my ideas. Hope they are of some help.
Hope it helps
>From looking through the docs it seems that not much of the story or

>Also, is anyone working on the missing ship descriptions in the ship
>database or can I do that, too?
