I've used JBuilder to include Saxon.jar successfully. You have to "add
archive" to the CLASSPATH. Alternatively, if you use Saxon in many
different JBuilder projects (as I do), you can create a "Library" and
reference it in your project. Here again, you must add the Saxon.jar
explicitly, not just the directory that contains it.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
I don't know JBuilder, but the error message means that the Java class
loader can't find the class, which is issued as part of saxon.jar.
When you say "I've listed the Saxon folder first in the required libraries
tab of the project properties." I'm suspicious: you should probably include
saxon.jar itself, not the directory that contains it.

Subject: [saxon] Newbie lamer question: TransformerFactory.newInstance();
I've got a problem with TransformerFactory.newInstance() that I'm sure is
blindingly obvious to more experience users of SAXON...
Problem is, I'm getting a "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
javax/xml/transform/TransformerFactory" exception when trying to get the
TransformerFactory. I've set the system property, like this:
...but still nothing. I am using JBuilder, but I'm not entirely convinced
I know how to ensure it's picking up the right parser. I've listed the
folder first in the required libraries tab of the project properties.
Any pointers/full essay-form answers/step by step idiot's guide
