Aha! You have set the temporary directory to C:\localtexmf. Do not do
this! In addition to this being misuse of the local texmf tree, you get
into trouble because files in the texmf trees are only found if they
are in the filename database. (That's why the file
C:\localtexmf\mikCE.tmp isn't read/found by Yap.)

Set TEMP/TMP to C:\TEMP or something similar.

I guess you all have read Albert's reply:

 Version 0.098n is outdated and does not work with the recent
 Ghostscript/GSView. You must update to Yap 0.99i via the MiKTeX
 update wizard. Maybe that you have to download the latest wizard
 first.

I guess this is the correct reason, since the problem started when
ghostscript 8.11 was installed. However, my comments about using
localtexmf as a temporary directory are still valid.

Hi All,

I am having some problems with YAP (currently using
YAP 2.4.1398).

The first problem is related to displaying EPS and PS
files.  Sometimes they work and sometimes they do not.
 I have not been able to have a repeatable problem so
I guess it may be hard to identify what is wrong.  In
this case, if anyone has any suggestion how to easily
update or re-install YAP it would be great.

The second problem, which does not necessarily seem to
be related is on how YAP renders text.  In my
installation, I often (again, it is unpredictable) get
text that is 'corrupted' whenever I include any text
in colour using the "color" package.:

Since I am not sure whether this e-mail will go

Yap is a DVI viewer, not a PostScript viewer. Some PostScript
specials are understood by Yap and some aren't. If you rely on
postscript convert to PS and view the file in GSview.

Since your problem seems different I suggest that you file a bug report.

PS! You should never include PS files, only EPS files, in a latex
document.

I just switched all my PS figures to EPS using GSview.
 I then tested YAP and I still have the same problem
with it not displaying the figures (none of them).  I
guess you comment on YAP not being a PS viewer extends
to EPS (?).

I know that if I use PNG I have no problems with YAP
but if I do that I would dramatically decrease the
quality of my images.

Any ideas where to start looking?  Is the problem
originate when the PS or EPS image is created?

Yes, of course. Converting PS to EPS might work if you do it
correctly. Try ps2eps (which removes postscript commands that aren't
allowed in EPS-files):

Why do you have to view it in Yap - isn't GSview an option?

Of course PS in GSview or PDF in Acrobat (or
equivalent) are an option, it is just that it takes
longer to preview.  Furthermore, those two do not
provide the capability (that I know of) to link them
back to the TEX file as YAP does.
