before, I'm a newbie to C, but not to the net, or to programming. I've been
using BASIC for 19 years, and learned pascal at the same time but didn't use
it much. I attempted to learn fortran, but when it took almost 30 minutes to
compile "Hello, World" on the lab's apple][ with a CP/M card installed, I
decided to drop that one. About 10 years ago, I came back to programming,
and used BASIC a lot. Then I got caught in the 'net, and learned html, perl,
and PHP. When I learned that PHP is a lot like C, I decided it was time to
tackle this one. I found and downloaded MinGW and gcc, and got the book. I
hope to breeze through this basic stuff in a week or two, and start digging
in to the nuts and bolts of the Win32 API. Then I'm sure I'll have a few
more questions, and maybe even a few answers eventually. And then it's
