I think that the version of the applet code released with 6.5.2 works
with the Microsoft Java VM, but not with the Sun Java plug-in. You don't
actually say which Java VM (or for that matter, which browser) you are
There are two differences I am aware of.
Firstly, the Sun plug in is much stricter about where the saxon.jar is
loaded from. This seems to be the problem you are hitting. I can make
this work by putting the saxon.jar in the same directory as the HTML
page, and using archive="saxon.jar" in the HTML. I don't think the
classpath makes any difference.
Secondly, and I think this is a stopper, Saxon 6.5.2 requests the
"user.dir" property (current directory) and the Sun Java VM doesn't
allow this on the client, it reports a security violation. This is fixed
in Saxon 7.2.
Running Saxon as an applet isn't straightforward, and unless you are
very familiar with Java and applets, I would suggest getting to grips
with Saxon in a different environment first, before you try to get it
running in the browser.
