Sounds like you might want something a little more sophisticated than I have
but I'll mention it anyway. I just use a single sprinkler for the garden in
the summertime. I have a rainbird solenoid connected to a 110V adapter
plugged into an X10 module and MH just sends the on and off commands at the
scheduled times. The rainbird was only about $12, the adapter another $8 or
so and of course X10 appliance modules are quite cheap. If you want to do
several zones, it doesn't scale well as you'd have to have an X10 module for
each zone but it's a thought.
