I guess from Allan's mail that this didn't make it into CVS. It would
have automatically solved his problem ...

[xine-user] Disabling ALSA at compile-time?

Hi,

I've been trying (on and off) to compile xine (both from 0.3.7 tarball
and from CVS) and failing each time due to problems with ALSA. It was
only today that I *finally* got around to reading the list archives -
I know, it ought to be the first thing you do, but for some reason it
seems so much easier to adopt the "just try it again and maybe it'll
work this time" approach. :-)

I noticed a post from Daniel Caujolle-Bert saying that xine won't
compile with the ALSA 0.9.x betas due to ALSA API changes. Fair enough
- but is there anyway I can tell configure not to use ALSA at *all*,
until the API settles down? As far as I can see, I ought to be able to
use, for example, the ESD output plugins without needing ALSA. Is this
right?

./configure --disable-alsatest switches off the ALSA test (at least 
according to ./configure --help) so I assume that also switches off 
ALSA. I can't check this however as I don't have ALSA on my system at all.

[xine-user] plau stops after 2000 frames

I'm running xine without the DVD mounted at all, and I'm running kernel 
2.4.0. Why does it stop at exactly 2000 frames? I'm confused.

Some people have reported this behaviour after kernel upgrades to
2.4.2-acsomething. 
This also happens if you have mounted the DVD as CD, at least with some
drives...
