Valgrind, an open-source memory debugger

Does valgrind support OpenMP applications?

I always get the error:

"OMP abort: System unable to allocate necessary resources for monitor
thread.

Try decreasing the number of threads in use simultaneously."

when I try to use valgrind (3.0.1) memcheck on my openmp application.

Does valgrind provide a means of selectively turning heap checking ON =
and OFF programmatically ?

Something like:

HeapChecker.start();
doSomething();
HeapChecker.stop();

so that the generated report contains leaks, if any, in doSomething(); I =
am looking to integrate valgrind with my unit test framework but I do =
not want the complete test harness to run under valgrind as that can be =
prohibitive.

The code repository page mentions the 3.0 line is not ready for ppc32
yet but the posting dated June 2005. It's been three months since then,
so what is the status of the ppc support?
I am trying on an amcc 440gp machine running a 2.6.10 kernel but getting
a segmentation fault as shown below:
