SquirrelMail

So I've looked through manuals, config, Google'd etc etc and can't find
any answers to this relatively simple questions (it must be common!!)

How do you control how long a user can be idle before they have to login
again?  My users are complaining that if they compose a long letter by
the time they hit "send" it kicks them to the "you're not logged on"
page.

(i assume when it is incorporated into the base code that the 
functionality will move to the top of the note where the rest of the

It's always worked for me. I've got following in my config.php file:

$ldap_server[0] = array(
    'host' => 'ldap.shcorp.com',
    'base' => 'ou=address book,ou=groups,dc=shcorp,dc=com',
    'name' => 'Sport & Health Directory'
);

Make sure you can do an ldap search from the box squirrelmail lives on.

Also, the ldap addresses will *not* show up in the "Addresses" link. They are only
available from the "Addresses" button. Yes, this is confusing.

Compose a new message, and click on the "Addresses" button, which is between
"Signature" and "Save Draft". You should be able to see ldap addresses in this
address book.

After upgrading to version 1.4 (from 1.2.11) I now have the following
problem (I saw references to this problem in the archive, but no
resolution).  I use uw imap and can create either a normal folder, or a
folder for containing folders.  However, when creating a normal folder,
the only folder options in the pull down menu "as a subfolder of," are
normal folders.  A normal folder can't be a subfolder of a normal folder,
but the subfolder drop down menu won't show any folder that is capable of
having a subfolder.  This behavior is completely wrong and seems to break
what worked fine in version 1.2.11.

Is there a fix for this problem?

The help menu works slightly different, and in fact isn't translated
by script, the help system is pre-translated, and packaged. Are any
other items appearing as Spanish on your display? Or is it all
English? If it is all English, you might want to check to see if you
have the es_ES locale files on the server... If it is mixed, then you
might want to contact the translations team, and let them know about
the issue.

Hello,
   I am using Squirrelmail with a mysql backend along with the 
phpaccelerator from ionCube. Everything works great except for the first 
connect after the apache restart for log rotation.  On that conect it 
complains that the descriptor is invalid for the preference server.  So... I 
was wondering if anyone else had seen this problem and if they have how they 
got around it.  Thanks for any information in advance!

Yes, I mean when I first view a message. I know I can click "view all
headers," but I like to see some headers very often and don't want to have
to click "view all headers" each time.

default if they exist, but I just upgraded from 1.21 to 1.4 and I'm not
too keen about going back through the code to see if my current hack still
works :). Some mailers I've used (like Apple's Mail.app) allow displaying
arbitrary headers. Does SquirrelMail have something similar?

Hi,

I'm running SM version 1.4.0-1.7.x on RedHat 7.3, with IMAP4rev1 2001.315rh.
The install seemed to go fine, I can read/send mail fine, but folders aren't
working properly.

I can create a folder, but it shows up in my folder list as blue rather than
red, and is "un-clickable." I can't move anything into folders I create, and
I can't delete these folders unless I delete the directories on the server
and update the folder index file.

Is this a common problem?

Yes, it is like message highlighting, but, as far as I can see, the
messages highlight based on regexps of From, Subject etc.  Unless I just
haven't figured it out, one can not apply an arbitrary message
highlighting to an email.   Or can I...

Hi,

I like everything about SM.  Extremely easy to install and great interface.

The one thing I would love to be able to do is to label different email,
similar to what Mozilla allows.  In Mozilla, you can define 5 pre-defined
labels, each with its own color, and then one can label any email.

For example, have a page where a label could be defined, that would
include a name, text color and back ground color.  Then on the page that
shows the email in a folder, one could mark an email and label it with one
of the defined labels.  Then the list of email would have some email with
different text color/background color to represent it is labeled.

Has this been considered?  Would it be an easy implementation?

 am not sure what we are missing, even with a base
1.4 or 1.5cvs squirrelmail & without any plugins, by
adding "only" the share calendar plugins, & nothing else,
we cannot add a new shared calendar, the share version
of the calendar does show up,
 but under option, shared calendar,
every time when we click on either the
calendar or user button, it looks like it want to do
something, but nothing appear

Hi Ryan,

Well, I changed that, and it's still just as slow. I guess I'm not
understanding why the final version takes a good ten seconds longer to load
than rc1. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Not really. At least not if you control things correctly.  Providing
you're not allowing users to randomly make scripts that allow them to put
files anywhere on the server, they should just be fine.

I think I might investigate the issue, and work out why sending mail
requires file_uploads to be on.  I think it was an adjustment that was
made somewhere in 1.2.6 somewhere.
