Yes, you can safely install.sh over the previous one. I'm not sure
what you mean by "lose installed ASDFs" -- a new install installs the
new contribs as well, and doesn't touch whatever is in
$wherever/lib/sbcl/site-systems (though I suspect that in 99% of cases
that is empty as many people prefer to install third-party libraries
