Saxon XSLT and XQuery Processor

I think it was a precursor to the -T option on the command line (or they may
have coexisted for a while).

If you want something more selective than the -T tracing option, there are
(possibly undocumented) extension functions saxon:pauseTracing() and
saxon:resumeTracing() to reduce the volume of output. You can also supply
your own TraceListener in place of the standard one (this is what the
debuggers in Stylus Studio and Oxygen do).

Can you use the XPath 2.0 trace function instead?

Bummer... I wonder why it was removed?  I'm not invoking Saxon as a 
command line tool, I'm using it within Cocoon.  It would have been 
really nice to just add an attribute to the stylesheet I was working on 
and have that turn on tracing. I don't suppose there's any chance of 
getting it reinstated someday? :-)


Is there a TrAX attribute that can be used to turn on tracing a la -T? 
It's more of a carpet-bombing than I'd like, per-stylsheet like 
saxon:trace would still be nicer, but...

IIUC, fn:trace() is a bit more like <xsl:message> and not really what 
I'm looking for.

The saxon:trace extension attribute (also IIUC) turned on an execution 
trace of template matching.

The equivalent API to -T on the command line is twofold. Firstly at compile
time you need

transformerFactory.setFeature(FeatureKeys.COMPILE_WITH_TRACING,
Boolean.TRUE);

Then at run-time you need

((Controller)transformer).addTraceListener(new StandardTraceListener());

Thanks. Looks like a consequence of the move to an Ant build script. I guess
it's caused by noindex="true" in the Ant javadoc task. I'll remove it for
next time. I think I took someone else's parameters without understanding
them too deeply.
