I understand the motivation for your request, however I have very little
hope that you will get it.

I do not know the implementation details of all the applications you
listed but the usual approaches are to code your own cache system or use
a library that does the tile caching. Surely the task is well defined
but there might be little differences. Those applications that implement
their own stuff can be changed by their authors. Those using a library
have to request the library author to do the changes. Naturally none of
the authors is really happy to change their code to some, well,
non-existing standard.

One motivation to develop QLGT is to have one GIS tool and not a bunch
of them. Thus my interest in getting into endless discussions about a
unified cache structure is low. Naturally I try to avoid installing
several applications by adding missing features to QLGT. IMHO that is a
better investment of my spare time.

I know that sounds depressing, but I do not think it's good practice to
dump the responsibility and workload of such a task in front of someone
else's feet. If you want to have a unified cache structure you have to
get into action yourself. If you send me a patch that modifies the cache
without breaking function I will add it to svn. And I am sure if you
create patches for all the other applications, too, and explain the
motivation to the application's author they will accept the patch. IMHO
this will be your only chance to get what you want.

Btw, a good start to look at is

COsmTilesHash::COsmTilesHash(QString tileUrl)

in COsmTilesHash.cpp line 89ff. And watch out for the variable filePath.
And if you do have questions ask Marc. He is on the list as well and
wrote all that stuff. ;)
