Ok, when I set it to a free port (i tried many) it always says:
"damaged.ihku.org - Failed binding to 0.0.0.0, port 21: Permission
denied". Which is not the port I set it to. But then I read this from
the debugging howto:
"Note: make sure that no other proftpd instances are running before
using this command, otherwise you will see:
Failed binding to 0.0.0.0, port 21: Address already in use"
Another instance of proftpd is running with inetd on the same server.
Is that a problem/is there a workaround?

This error suggests that something else is already using that
address/port
(i.e. another proftpd instance, or inetd/xinetd). See:
