I would not mind "Cohort," though I'm not strongly in favor of it
either.  Still, I'd like to have _some_ name we can release with, so
that we can get 2.0.0 out the door.

Yeah I guess I screwed up and didn't check this email over the weekend 
(and had a tooth taken out Monday) and missed the deadline. Laager 
suggested that you having assigned 3 to yourself might mean you planned 
on reassigning one or more to someone else. (although it wouldn't 
surprise me if you really want three) If so, let me know, otherwise, my bad.

Sure, which ones are you most wanting to keep? I don't want to steal 
your favorite from you.
Looking through your three, I'm having a hard time deciding.
Also looks like Evans had the qq one assigned to him at one point, 
what's up with that?

He requested it, but I took it for myself, because Evan also has 2

Irrelevant to Gaim: I actually ended up with just 1 Adium project  
because other Adium folk wanted a share of the mentorship pie and I  
yielded :)

I'm cool with helping sadrul on the curses-based gaim/libgaim one --  
it's much more in line with Things I Know, whereas QQ I offered to  
mentor primarily because I thought it needed mentoring and I was  
willing to do it if nobody more qualified was interested.

Also, since i said I'd mentor sadrul's application for gobjectification,
he now has 2 at the top, I imagine that's going to be a problem...

The goal is to have as many of the best applications as we have slots
for, or there are suitable applications, whichever number is smaller.
If this means no MSN apps get in, or no logging apps get in, or
whatever, that's fine.  We should avoid duplicates.

Do we know how many slots we get for sure, yet?

Frankly, I don't see 13 (or however many students we originally
applied for) stellar applications.  I'm quite disappointed over all.

Not sure. I would really, really, really like to have both logging apps.
They would have different scopes and would likely both accomplish good
things. I've attempted to justify that in a comment I posted to them.

We might be able to have two performance ones. Two MSN ones would be
tough.

Ditto, I know I haven't seen the majority of the applications due to
time constraints, but some of the applications we're looking at this
year are ones I just outright denied last year for copy pasting.

Related to this... If possible, I'd like to see another release before
the SoC students start committing stuff (if we're following the same
approach as last year). We haven't had a beta release in 2 months. (It's
been about 9.5 months since 1.5.0.)

Also, I would love to see the ShowStopperBugs fixed. They're reproduced
below. If you have any pointers on how to fix some of these, I'd be
grateful to hear them. I can take a stab at some of them if I knew where
to best spend my time.

Jabber DoS and gtk_window_present abuses would be helpful.

There was a bit more but it was about the protocol itself and 
passports so I'm not quoting it. But it's probably worth actually 
finding out what he has and doesn't have, and how acceptable his patch 
is at this point.

If that's the case we should probably pull it from the suggestions  
list...

Perhaps we should also include more information on what a 'good  
application' should have?  Most of the apps I see submitted so far  
are pretty awful.  As a starting point: Based partially on good pages  
from other projects, Adium has http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/ 
ProposalGuidelines up, linked from the summer of code page.
