I am manipulating the data in the queries a little to clean them up, for instance,
in the MS Access QBE I may do something like:
Left$(Replace(Replace(dbo_manufacturer!Manufacturer,"/"," "),"!",""),5) & '-'
& dbo_manufacturer!ManufacturerID & '-' & [manProdRangeID] AS ParentCategory
That's just really pretty simple cleanup stuff (there's even wizards for most
everything to get you going, and could be done with SQL in any standard sql
query, although I sometimes do use some of the Visual Basic functions. I haven't
had to write anything more complex (no macros, or custom VB functions) - but
it's there if you need it.
To be honest, I am not a windows/qui user, I mostly work with SQL, but Access
is one of the rare exceptions -- when I need to easily see the results before
executing,etc.. Access is a big help.
I wish that more SQL tools had scripting, and tools like Access.
For years, I have searched for a good data transformation/migration tool, and
to date, never found anything better than Access (which really disturbs me).
I even used it on a HUGE SAP R/3 implementation!
